Class 12 Student in Haryana Chased 30 Km, Killed After Being Mistaken for Cow Smuggler
New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded in Haryana‘s Faridabad, where a Class 12 student was allegedly pursued in a car and fatally shot by a group of cow vigilantes who mistook him for a cattle smuggler. Police reported on Monday that five members of the vigilante group have been arrested in connection with the August 23 attack.
The arrested individuals, identified as Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, Adesh, and Saurabh, reportedly chased Aryan Mishra and his friends—Shanky, Harshit, and two girls—over a distance of about 30 kilometers on the Delhi-Agra National Highway.
Sources indicate that the cow vigilantes had received information about potential cattle smugglers driving Renault Duster and Toyota Fortuner vehicles in the area. While searching for these suspected smugglers, the group came across the Duster car in which Aryan and his friends were traveling. They allegedly signaled Harshit, who was driving, to pull over. However, fearing an attack due to an ongoing feud involving Shanky, they decided not to stop.
The situation escalated when the vigilantes gave chase and eventually caught up to the car. They fired at the vehicle, striking Aryan, who was sitting in the passenger seat, near his neck. When the car finally stopped, the assailants fired again, hitting Aryan in the chest, under the mistaken belief that the occupants might retaliate.
Upon realizing that two girls were also in the car, the attackers suspected they had targeted the wrong individuals and fled the scene. Aryan was immediately rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Sources further revealed that the weapon used in the attack was illegal. The five suspects are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
